How to Write a Personal Statement for a Master’s Programme

How to Write a Personal Statement for a Master's Programme

HOW TO WRITE A PERSONAL STATEMENT FOR A MASTER’S PROGRAMME A personal statement, also known as the statement of purpose is a special type of essay that supports your application to study at a university. It is a statement of scholarly interests and should include specific personal information about yourself, information relating to your desires toward choosing a specific course. Your personal statement should demonstrate why you are a good candidate that should get admission for a Master’s programme at your preferred university. To do so, you’ll need to write a brief essay about your experience, motivation and your previous accomplishments, with real examples and proof demonstrating who you are as a student and why you’re a good fit for the degree you’ve chosen.   QUESTIONS THAT MAY HELP YOU PLAN YOUR PERSONAL STATEMENT. Your personal statement is an invitation to the admission committee to get to know who you are; it should also be the result of a self-reflection. When writing a personal statement, you are taking the time to find out who you are and what your future aspirations should be — both in terms of what you want to study and what you want to do after graduation. Questions like this should be addressed in your personal statement:       Why do you want to study a Master’s program and how will you benefit from it?       How well does the course match your abilities?       Why would you like to study in a specific country?       How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd – for example, by work experience?       In your future career, what do you want to be/do?   What contribution may your work provide to the department/university/society? Why would you like to study in a specific school, amongst other schools that are also offering the same course?   Also, if you’re applying for a subject that isn’t in the same field as your undergraduate degree, explain why you want to change your major. Consider the following:     How your undergraduate degree will help you bring new perspectives to your course     The reasons behind your decision to switch fields of study How altering your course of study will benefit your future career   HOW TO WRITE A PERSONAL STATEMENT. STRUCTURE  LANGUAGE   STRUCTURE The structure of a personal statement must contain the following information   Have a compelling middle section and conclusion, as well as an eye-catching and fascinating introduction.   Have an introduction that serves as a framework for the rest of your statement, with the main body explaining your interests, experience, and knowledge.    It should contain a minimum of 500 words   Have no more than 25-30 words in each sentence       The conclusion should summarize your important ideas, reflect on your major achievements, and clearly demonstrate your desire to learn.   Example: INTRODUCTION I am a graduate who wishes to further her studies in the field of English Literature. I graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts, securing a Second class Upper-division from the University of Lagoon which is a leading State University in the western part. I’ve always been fascinated by a writer’s creativity, which leads me to believe that English is the best degree to study at the university. My love for English has only grown over the years, and my ability and dedication to study will be of great service during my time at university   CONCLUSION I approach literature with unrelenting zeal, which will undoubtedly enable me to enjoy the trials that lie ahead. With all of my future ambitions, being able to study at your university will provide a fantastic platform for me to achieve them. I hope that the information provided above justifies my position and aids you in making an informed conclusion.   LANGUAGE Your tone should be positive and enthusiastic. It should demonstrate your desire to learn as well as persuade the university that you have what it takes to succeed in one of their courses. You ought to:       Make use of compelling introductory paragraphs.       Make sure your grammar, punctuation, and spelling are correct.       Avoid exaggerated assertions and use plain language in short sentences.   Focus on the course.   Check out the video below to watch one of our live sessions with our admissions officers on the topic: How to write a personal statement.   Visit us or speak with our counsellors to get detailed information on how to write a personal statement for a master’s programme.    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt. Opportunities for Students with a Third-Class Degree and HND in the UK 2026

UK-opportunities-for-HND-and-Third-Class-2026

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WITH A THIRD-CLASS DEGREE AND HND IN THE UK.   Firstly, one should know that education is a lot more than just going to school and getting a degree, it is about widening one’s knowledge, it is the passport for the future. Therefore, there are opportunities in the UK for students with a third-class degree program and a Higher National Diploma (HND) program.  THIRD-CLASS IN A BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM. A Third-class degree is the lowest degree achievable in most modern universities with a grade point of 1.50 – 2.50 and a percentage of 40% – 50%.   Some students struggle to get high results during their bachelor’s degree program because they may find their course of study challenging, and unfortunately end up with a third-class degree. This may lead them to believe that they can only get jobs that involve answering telephones, making coffee, or handling a broom or a mop.  These students however are determined to further their studies and get a post-graduate degree that will open doors to more career opportunities. They should know that it is possible for them to get good opportunities to further their education regardless of their bachelors degree, and can find a decent job in a corporate organization.  A HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAM. A higher national diploma program is a continuation of a national diploma (ND) program which are offered by Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and colleges of agriculture accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). It is a one-year degree program that uses study and practical elements to prepare a student for a particular career. Students with an HND degree can do a top-up degree program that will enable them to get a bachelors degree or a masters degree program.  Some students with a third-class in their bachelor’s degree program and others with just a higher national diploma (HND) program believe that they are not eligible to go for masters degree programs, however, they should be aware that admissions requirements for postgraduate courses vary by university, and an undergraduate degree is not the only factor in gaining a place for further study.  CAN HND AND THIRD-CLASS DEGREE HOLDER STUDY IN THE UK? Yes, HND degree holders and students with a third class in their bachelor’s degree program can study a masters degree program in the UK. There are numerous opportunities for students that fall under this category, however, there are some conditions following this.  A student with a third-class degree can do a direct one year masters degree program at Coventry University in the UK. However, they are required to provide up to 5 years of working experience and a CGPA of up to 2.0 and above.  With this opportunity, a student can study any course of their choice related to their background and work experience Students with a Higher National Diploma (HND) and a Bachelors degree with a third-class CGPA can get 15 months or 2 years accelerated Masters degree program in the UK, such schools are Birmingham City University (BCU), the University of Sunderland and Sheffield Hallam University.  It is important to know that there are conditions that must be met before a student can be granted admission into these school. These conditions are as follows  The student must write an English level test.  The students are restricted to only business courses like international business management, marketing, human resources etc Get more information on this topic, ‘Opportunities for students with a third-class degree and HND in the UK’ on our youtube channel, which was presented by one of our Counsellors. Covid-19 Vaccine for International Students in the UK

COVID-19 VACCINE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN THE UK.  Before we look into the Covid-19 vaccine for international students in the United Kingdom, let us have a better understanding of the covid vaccination and its existence in the UK. WHAT IS A VACCINE  A Vaccine is a medication that is responsible for coaching the body’s immune system to fight diseases that the human body comes in contact with. Vaccines are designed to prevent disease, rather than treat disease once you have caught it. Some example of a vaccine is:  The flu vaccine The HVP ( human papillomavirus) vaccine After the coronavirus disease emerged in the year 2019, a vaccine was founded in the year 2021, the covid vaccination ( Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine).  CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION  The covid vaccination ( Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine)  gives you the utmost protection against the deadly coronavirus disease. Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness.  Here is general information on the covid vaccination.  Name: BNT162b2 Manufacturer: Pfizer, Inc., and BioNTech Type of vaccine: mRNA Number of shots: 2 shots, 21 days apart Method of delivery: Shot in the muscle of the upper arm Click on the link below to get vital information on the Covid Vaccination from the specialized agency of the United Nations, WHO.   https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/coronavirus-disease-(covid-19)-vaccines?adgroupsurvey={adgroupsurvey}&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhP2BBhDdARIsAJEzXlFg_MaK8KG0CxIi8xxZ4ricMTWKvnPalSQeygIM19x8Uk98C1V3LrwaAlR8EALw_wcB COVID-19 VACCINE IN THE UK In the UK, 350+ million doses of the vaccine were ordered, which is enough to vaccinate the entire population. The NHS (National health system) is currently offering the Covid 19 vaccine to people that are most at risk from the deadly coronavirus disease.  The vaccinations are being distributed to some hospitals and pharmacies to administer to people under the following group:   People at the age of 60 and above.  People who have high risks of getting infected by the disease. (The clinically extremely vulnerable) People that have moderate risks of getting infected by the disease. (The clinically vulnerable) People that live or work in care homes People that get a carer’s allowance Health and social care workers COVID-19 VACCINE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS; UK Although the  Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is currently available, it is yet to be administered to international students in the UK. Sources claim that International students will have access to the vaccine and no charges will be applied to testing or the treatment of COVID-19. However, International students that are diagnosed with medical conditions and are between the ages of 16 and above are to be administered the vaccine from the first week of March 2021 until the end of March 2021.  The older international students are next in line to be administered the vaccine, this would be done before the end of April 2021.  The UK is dedicated to supporting international students in such unusual times and the Universities Minister, Michelle Donelan, offered her gratitude to students for being patient with the provisions offered to combat COVID-19.  The Secretary of Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock stated that “the vaccine along with effective treatment processes will help in managing COVID-19, thus further helping reach normalcy in the future, hopefully”. The United Kingdom is likely to be the first country to be fully vaccinated before the late spring/early summer of the year 2021, since 350+ million vaccine doses were ordered for a population of 65 million, meaning supply will be sufficient. If this happens, September 2021 entry will be safe for all International students without any hassle.  Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt. Post-Study Work Permit in Ireland

POST-STUDY WORK PERMIT IN IRELAND.   WHAT IS A POST-STUDY WORK PERMIT? HOW TO GET A WORK PERMIT AFTER STUDYING IN IRELAND. Today’s blog post is a short story on what transpired between our counsellor and a prospective international student. It is a quiet day at Negxy Concept, the CEO, Mr, Nelson Eban is seated in his office, talking to the office NYSC Corper, Anyanwu Agatha. The counsellor and senior admissions officer, Mr Tosin Eminowa and Mrs Queensley Ezike are busy at their desk working through some files and the digital marketing Manager Miss. Folasade Abimbola, alongside the Junior admissions officer, Miss. Providence Ogedengbe are together at the reception trying to create some content for their online audience when the entrance door opens. A middle-aged woman walks into the office. After being attended to by the receptionist, she is taken to the counsellor, Mr Tosin Eminowa, as she is a prospective client, who desires to study in Ireland. COUNSELOR: Good Afternoon Ma’am. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: Good Afternoon Counselor, please I would like to study abroad in Ireland with the help of this agency, as I have heard so much about Negxy Concept Limited. However, I would like to know more about the privileges of studying in Ireland. COUNSELOR: You are welcome to Negxy Concept Limited Ma’am, thank you for being here. Studying in Ireland is a great choice and it has a lot of privileges, for example, a quality education, a promising career, a high level of security but the most exciting of all is that you get the opportunity to stay back for as long as two years after graduation. This is known as a post-study work permit. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: This seems exciting; do tell me more about this work permit. COUNSELOR: It was created for international students who wish to work in Ireland after the completion of their degrees, to gain invaluable work experience in a specific field thereby strengthening their CV and opening doors to a successful career. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: This work permit seems compelling. COUNSELOR: It is a post-study work permit Ma’am, a work permit is different from a post-study work permit. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: Oh really? How so? COUNSELOR: A post-study work permit allows you to secure graduate employment and also enables you to apply for a work permit or a green card in Ireland. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: Is the 2years post-study work permit for international students who studied any degree in Ireland? COUNSELOR: No, Ma’am, the 2 years post-study work permit only applies to students who have a level 9 and 10 NFQ (National Framework of qualifications), which is a post-graduate diploma, a master’s degree and a doctoral degree. The students must have also applied for the third level graduate program within six months of being notified that they have completed their degree. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: Do tell me more. COUNSELOR: The NFQ levels for higher education that gives a post-study permit that is lower than 2years is level 7 and 8, which is the ordinary bachelor’s degree and the honours bachelors degree. These degrees are only eligible for a 1-year post-study work permit unlike the level 9 and 10 that is eligible for  2 years post-study work permit. Also, the third level graduate program was introduced by the Irish government to allow international students who have completed their degrees from a recognized Irish higher institution to remain in Ireland after their studies. Therefore, international students who have graduated from an Irish university must apply for a third level graduate program to be eligible for a post-study work permit, no matter the NFQ level of degree attained. PROSPECTIVE CLIENT: I would like to go for a Masters program, so i believe this offer was made especially for me. Thank you so much for this session, it was really educative. COUNSELOR: That is perfect Ma’am. You are very much welcome, thank you for choosing Negxy Concept Limited. We would need a few information from you to begin the process for a master’s program in Ireland. Here is a list of universities, I would do a briefing on them shortly. What are you waiting for? Impact of COVID-19 on UK Study Abroad: New Rules & Visa Trends

Impact of COVID-19 on UK Study Abroad 2026: New Rules & Visa Trends. Before we look into the impact of Coronavirus on study abroad for foreign students in the UK, let us have a better understanding of this deadly disease known as Coronavirus (COVID-19 ) and its existence in the U.K. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19 ) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. If you are within proximity of someone who has COVID-19, you could be affected, as this disease is transmitted through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. Some of the COVID-19 symptoms are Fever, dry cough, sore throat, loss of taste and smell. The World Health Organization (WHO) an agency of the United Nations in charge of international public health has confirmed that there has been a total of 99. 363. 697 cases, 2.135. 959 deaths and 224 countries, areas or territories with COVID-19 cases. CORONAVIRUS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM The United Kingdom has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. The country is currently in its third national lockdown and is battling a high rate of infections, hospitalizations and deaths, caused by a more transmittable variant of the virus. On a positive note, the U.K. is one of the world leaders for the coronavirus vaccination campaign. IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS ON STUDYING  IN THE UNITED KINGDOM In the United Kingdom, the coronavirus pandemic has affected education in many ways. To limit the spread of this deadly virus, many universities across the United Kingdom have limited or completely suspended face-to-face teaching and moved to remote learning while others have adopted the hybrid form of learning, which requires spaced-out face-to-face tutoring and digital lectures while observing the COVID-19  protocols. Due to the hybrid learning, measures have been implemented by universities to curb the spread of the deadly virus, these include marking the entry and exit points of buildings; providing hand sanitiser stations, marking of floors and social distances measures. U.K universities are currently processing applications normally because the U.K is expected to be one of the first countries in the world to be fully vaccinated, likely by September 2021, therefore, the next main student intake is scheduled for September 2021 and students will have access to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine as it will be administered across the country. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected students from easily travelling in and out of the United Kingdom as the U.K government has advised foreigners travelling into the country to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result taken up to 3 days before departure and if you do not comply, your airline or carrier may refuse you boarding and you may be fined on arrival. Also, you must self-isolate when you enter the U.K from any foreign country, these rules must be obeyed until the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is issued. “As 2021 begins with a national lockdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the higher education sector has set out a range of measures that ensure student welfare remains the priority” Click on the link below to view these measures and how to cope as an international student studying in the United Kingdom. https://www.prospects.ac.uk/applying-for-university/university-life/how-universities-are-changing-in-the-wake-of-covid-19 Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Ikeja, Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt.
