THE UK NO LONGER TRUST NIGERIAN PROOF OF FUNDS
It is shocking for Nigerians that the UK no longer trust their proof of funds, this troubling news broke out on Friday, January 14th,2022, when the UK started questioning the validity of Nigerian proof of funds (bank statement).
These past days and even weeks truly have been a roller coaster for Nigeria.
The ending of the year, December 2021, had its own drama, this drama being the Omicron Virus (Coronavirus Variant) which led the UK to put up strict rules for Nigerian students and even ban Nigerians planning to travel to the UK with a visiting visa. This year, not up to a month ago, another commotion between Nigeria and the UK has arisen, this commotion affects strictly Nigerian students who have intentions to study in the UK.
As we all know, students are expected to show a bank statement (proof of funds) containing their tuition fees, alongside their cost of living before they are being granted CAS or a visa to successfully study in the UK. The total balance in their bank account at the time this is being presented, convinces the university admission team and the immigration authorities that the student will be able to complete the tuition fee payment and also, can afford to comfortably live during their studies in the UK. However, all of their efforts have proven fruitless as a lot of students find it difficult to pay up their tuition fees after enrolment into a UK university.
Succeeding this issue, on the 14th of January 2022, there was a new headline, stating that Nigerians may be obtaining loans so they can show UK immigration authorities that they have accurate funds in their account during their stay in the UK, loans which they later return after acquiring their student visa. This not only made headlines here in Nigeria, but it has also gotten to so many Universities in the UK and proves why most Nigerians are unable to make their tuition payments after getting to the UK, therefore, this has led to a lack of trust towards proof of funds provided by Nigerian students. To contain the issue, some UK universities have put up measures and conditions to guarantee the ownership of the funds presented by the students, measures such as additional documents.
WHAT ARE THESE ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS THAT MUST BE PROVIDED TO BACK UP A NIGERIAN PROOF OF FUNDS?
A few weeks ago, the issue of lack of trust by the UK towards Nigerians proof of funds escalated. Some students who got admitted to study during January intake in the UK were made to provide new requirements by the university admission team and the immigration authorities to back up the proof of funds that was presented.
Some of these new requirements are:
- A statement showing transitions from a previous period (different to the financial evidence provided and within the last six months)
- The front only of a bank card or Cheque book showing the account holder’s name
- Signed and stamped letter from the bank (produced on a different date to the statement) outlining the duration for which the account has been held
DOES NEGXY CONCEPT LIMITED OFFER PROOF OF FUNDS SERVICES?
No, Negxy Concept Limited does not offer proof of funds services for prospective UK students.
It is important for you to know that Nigerian Students are not the only ones being affected by this issue, study abroad agents are also affected.
There is certain news flying around stating that study abroad agents may be lending money to students for the sole purpose of deceiving the UK immigration authorities. This news has put Nigerian UK agents in a tight spot, as they are being scrutinized and monitored by the UK immigration authorities to prove the validity of the news.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO STUDY IN THE UK
