WHAT THE CBN NEW FREE FLOATING FOREX POLICY MEANS FOR YOU AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT.

THE CBN NEW FREE FLOATING FOREX POLICY We all woke up to the CBN New Free Floating Forex Policy on the news yesterday, 15th June, 2023 stating that the CBN would no longer peg the Naira at a certain rate versus the dollar, and also Local Banks had been given the permission to trade the naira against the U.S dollar based on a free market. This means that the Naira’s exchange rate against the dollar will be determined through supply and demand rather than by the central bank. All banks, including the CBN, are allowed to set their own rate, primarily determined by what the market offers which eliminates the need for a parallel or black market. WHAT WOULD THIS NEW POLICY MEAN FOR YOU AS YOU AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AS YOU PREPARE TO PAY FOR YOUR STUDIES THIS SEPTEMBER? What is immediately glaring is that as a student wanting to pay your tuition fees abroad, you would no longer be able to make use of the CBN forex rate through FORM A as had been the case. Each bank would now determine what rate they would charge to fulfil international payments to foreign institutions. And this is expected to increase the rates that students would be expected to pay. For instance, a quick check on OANDA.com revealed that the Naira rose from around 586 as at yesterday, to 625 to a pound this morning (16th, June 2023). Over the next couple of weeks, it is expected that the Naira rates versus the major currencies would fluctuate steadily as the Naira battles against the dollar and as such, students should be prepared to pay more money to secure their offers and prepare their financial statements for proof of funds. We would be holding an Instagram live session next week (21st, June 2023) to shed more light on what you can do as a student wanting to study this September. For more Information on The CBN New Free Floating Forex Policy and how to go about these new changes, click here to speak with one of our counsellors.

Effects of Russia’s Invasion on Prospective UK Students

Effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on prospective UK students We will be looking at the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on prospective UK students, with Nigeria as a focus. The Russian-Ukraine war has been a troubling situation, and as the war is still on, there have been several effects all around the world. The 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine occurred on February 24th, 2022, and different countries all around the world have responded in different ways. A good number of European countries that share borders with Ukraine are opening up their borders to refugees fleeing from Ukraine, countries such as Romania, Slovakia and Poland. The United States, the United Kingdom, and some other countries in the European Union responded by placing financial sanctions on Russia. These sanctions prohibit the country from modernising its economy and seizing Putin’s ability to project power in world affairs. In addition to the sanctions, the UK government also came up with a new rule on the 15th of March 2022. This rule can be seen as a major effect of Russia’s invasion on prospective UK students from Nigeria. Effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Nigerians going to the UK The news update for UK students that were released by the UK government in the 2nd week of March brought about a lot of questions. Questions like, has the UK seized visa processing in Nigeria? Is the UK still accepting Nigerian students? Will students with offers from UK universities still get to travel for their studies? And so much more. These panics began as a result of the Ukraine family scheme that was created to help refugees from Ukraine. The creation of this scheme resulted in priority and super-priority for Nigeria Visas to be suspended. Also, there are possibilities that the standard visa might take longer than the usual 3 weeks due to the Ukraine family scheme. The Russian – Ukraine Invasion has brought about not just the Ukraine family scheme but also a scheme known as Homes for Ukraine. As the days go by and the war is still ongoing, there are possibilities that new rules may be made by the UK government that may benefit or not benefit Nigerians. Therefore, students are advised to begin their admission and visa process early, to ensure that they successfully acquire their UK students visa and travel for their studies in the UK. Also, ever since the Russia-Ukraine war, the Nigerian economy has been unstable. There has been an increase in the price of some refined products coming into the country. Products like petroleum have been scarce and expensive ever since the start of the war, and this is a major issue that is affecting not only Nigeria but the world at large. The economic instability of the country since the war might make it harder for prospective UK students to travel for their studies in the UK. However, they should not be discouraged. In a situation such as this, we always advise our students to make their plans ahead of time. For example, students looking to study in the UK in the year 2023, should begin to make preparations. This is so that they are able to gather enough funds and successfully study in the UK, regardless of the economic instability in the country. Prospective Nigerian students looking to study in the UK from Ukraine Fortunately, a good number of Nigerian students who were studying in Ukraine were able to find their way back to Nigeria. Most of these students were unable to complete their education in Ukraine before the start of the war. However, they are willing to go back to school. Yes, it is admirable that they are considering going back to school, but after questioning some of these students, they confirm that it may be quite challenging for them. In terms of funds and how to go about the process etc. This is where Negxy Concept Limited comes in. At the moment, we have a couple of students from Ukraine that we are helping to further their studies in the UK. On the other hand, we advise those who want to study in the UK but do not have the funds to either find a sponsor or try to make proper plans for this. In all, yes, even though a student could not complete their studies in Ukraine, they could still study in the UK. Effects of the Invasion on Nigerian Students currently in the UK The Homes for Ukraine Scheme, which was imposed on the 18th of March, makes it harder for students who recently travelled for their studies in the UK to find accommodation. This is so as citizens and permanent residents are giving out their homes to refugees from Ukraine. UK Visa Ban: How Fake Documentation Got Tope Banned

How Fake Documentation Got Tope Banned from the UK In this blog post, you will learn how fake documentation can lead to a UK visa ban. You will also understand why you must avoid submitting false documents and why authentic documentation is essential for your study abroad process. At Negxy Concept Limited, we assist students with different needs every day. As Nigeria’s leading study abroad agency, we guide applicants through admissions and visa processes. However, some situations fall outside our control. Recently, we encountered a student who received a 10-year UK ban after submitting fake documents during her visa application. An agency promised to provide her with a bank statement as proof of funds. That decision cost her the opportunity to travel. Submitting fake proof of funds led directly to the ban. While the agency played a role, the applicant also made the final decision to proceed. Unfortunately, this mistake has permanently damaged her travel history. The UK government has made studying in the UK accessible for international students. However, you must not take this opportunity for granted. Avoid Fake Documentation for your Studies in the UK On the 14th of January, 2022, the Uk Immigration authority perceived that Nigerians were taking up loans for their proof of funds, and as a result, the UK no longer trusts Nigerian proof of funds. This led them to put up strict measures to guarantee the ownership of funds provided by students. These strict measures are what landed Tope in the situation she currently is in, and it should be a warning to everyone else. If you want to go to school abroad, and you can not afford to, all you need to do is to wait until you have saved up enough for your studies or you can find a family member who can sponsor your studies. Always avoid fake documentation for your studies, to the UK or any other country of your choice as the immigration authorities have proper procedures in place. You do not want to find yourself in the situation that Tope has found herself in. Yes, we all want a better life, we all want to be in a better country, especially due to all the crises going on in Nigeria. However, going about it in the legit and proper way will always pay off. Why You Should Avoid Getting a UK Ban It is very important for you to avoid a UK ban at all cost. Do have in mind that once you are placed on a ban from the Uk, you will be unable to travel to or visit countries like the Republic of Ireland. On the other hand, if you are placed on a ban from the Republic of Ireland, you can still get a visa to visit or study in the UK. The UK is a very powerful country, and there are a good number of countries that will deny you a visa if you ever get placed under a ban from the UK. Therefore, be smart when going about your study abroad process. Visit Negxy Concept Limited. Importance of Providing Authentic Documentation Providing counterfeit documents, either as proof of funds or any other documentation needed for your studies abroad, should be avoided, as this can put you in a situation that may be difficult to come out of. Situations such as; Visa refusal, a ban or even deportation after entry into the country. Providing authentic documentation will guarantee the following High chance of getting your visa High chance of successfully travelling and living in the country of your choice High chance of gaining good employment High chance of even getting permanent residence. What is important is for the immigration authorities to trust you and see that you are honest and open. More Opportunities for Third-Class and HND Holders in the UK

MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIRD-CLASS AND HND HOLDERS IN THE UK There is no education that is ever a waste, no matter the grade, educational institution or country attended, there will always be an advantage for every knowledge gained. One of these advantages is the study opportunities that third-class and HND holders in the UK have. Who said Third-class and HND holders can not study in the UK? Yes, you can study in the UK. You are eligible for Top-up programmes, Pre-Masters, and even Direct Extended Masters (15-month) options. With the right guidance, these paths lead to the Graduate Route (Post-Study Work) and potential long-term settlement. Students with a third-class or HND however, should be aware that they are certain requirements and conditions needed before they can study in the UK and this varies by universities in the UK. Top-Up Programmes (Strictly for HND Holders) This programme is a one year programme that is strictly for HND holders, third class degree students are not open to this option. With a Top-up, a student can get a BSC certification that will enable them successfully apply to study for a master’s degree in the UK. Do have in mind that the types of courses opened to this programme are mostly IT, Business and Engineering courses. Doing a top-up programme in the UK will enable a student to stay back in the UK for as long as 4 years, this is so as the top-up is 1 year, the master’s program is 1 year and students are given a 2 years post-study permit. Before the 2 years post-study permit ends, a student can find good employment that will enable them to stay back and work in the UK. After they have stayed in the UK for as long as 5 years, may then can apply for permanent residence. PREMASTERS AND MASTERS DEGREE Students with an HND and Thirdclass can go for a Pre-Masters and a Masters degree programme in the UK. The duration of a pre-masters program is determined by admission officers in UK universities, based on the Cumulative Grade Point Average of the student. The course duration can be as low as 3 – 4 months and as high as 1 year. A student can study any course of choice during a pre-masters study, however, this depends on the courses available in the University. After a pre-masters programme, they can apply for a one-year master’s program. Students going for a pre-masters and master’s degree has the chance to stay in the UK for as long as 2 years, and are entitled to a 2 years post-study work permit. This gives HND and third-class degree students the opportunity to stay in the UK for a long period of time. DIRECT MASTERS Students with an HND and Third-class degree can go for a direct master’s in the UK, however, the programme that they are entitled to is an accelerated (extended) master’s. This is a 15 months master’s program and not all universities in the UK have the option of a direct master’s for third-class and HND holders. Courses opened to HND and third-class degree holders in some UK Universities are business management courses however, there are just a very few universities that permit HND and third-class degree holders to study health, IT and Engineering courses. Most universities in the UK expect students with HND and Third-class to have good working experience before they can go for this program in the UK. Without working experience, most universities will not accept students for this program. Students going for a direct master’s have the opportunity to study in the UK longer than 12 months and if they are able to find good employment after their studies in the UK, they have the chance of getting permanent residence. FEES ( TUITION FEES, PROOF OF FUNDS ) FOR PROSPECTIVE IRELAND STUDENTS One of the opportunities for studying in Ireland is the affordable tuition fees. In Ireland, there are tuition fees that range between €10,000 – €15,000. (Euro) Tuition fees are expected to be paid in full before proceeding to the visa stage; therefore, the proof of funds to be provided should only contain the student’s cost of living, which is around €7,000. €7,000 (Cost of Living) + 15,000 (Tuition fees ) = €22, 000 With around 10,000,000 – 11,000,000 naira, you can comfortably scale through the admission process and the visa process and successfully study in Ireland. It is a great opportunity as the fees needed for your studies are more affordable compared to that of the UK, Canada or even the USA. SPONSORSHIP FOR VISA PROCESSING Unlike the UK, which permits only parents to sponsor a student’s admission, Ireland permits all types of family members, both nuclear or extended. As long as proof of relationship is shown (such as a birth certificate), then any family member can be a sponsor for your studies. This is an opportunity for you as a prospective Ireland students that makes it possible to successfully study, as you do not have to wait until you have saved up enough funds before you can travel for your studies. To apply for a work visa in Ireland, all you need to provide is your offer letter from the organisation where you work; the organisation does not need to request a certificate of sponsorship. After being in Ireland for more than 5years, moving from a study visa to a work visa, you can go ahead to apply for permanent residency. Breakdown of Funds Needed to Study in the UK

BREAK-DOWN OF FUNDS NEEDED TO STUDY IN THE UK Before making plans for your studies, you are advised to enquire about the funds needed, to ensure that you are capable of studying and living in the UK. However, know that Negxy Concept Limited got you 101% of the time, this is why we will be writing the breakdown of funds needed to study in the UK just for you! To successfully study in the UK, you need to be able to bear the cost (the funds) that is needed for both your admission process and also your visa process. Let us give an example on the breakdown of funds needed to study in the UK with a student going to study Management and International Business at Birmingham City University. FUNDS NEEDED FOR YOUR ADMISSION PROCESS TO THE UK Students who have received an unconditional offer to study Management and International Business at Birmingham City University for September 2026 intake should already be aware of the tuition fee and cost of living in the UK. The tuition fee for International students studying this course is £18,970 per year for 2026 September and January 2026 intakes, and the cost of living in Birmingham City (Outside London ) is £10,539. After an unconditional offer is received, students are expected to pay up their tuition deposit. The tuition deposit for Birmingham City University is £8,485. Once this payment is made, the students can deduct this amount from the Tuition fee, in order to know how much is left to pay. £18,970 – £8,485 = £10,485 This means that the student is left to pay £10,485. Birmingham City University requires student’s bank statements (proof of funds) to be shown before a Pre-Cas interview can be done or a CAS can be received. I am sure you wonder, how do you calculate your bank statement? It is your Tuition balance + Cost of living Which is £10,485 + £10,539 = £21, 024 When doing your conversion to Nigerian currency, we always advise students to add an extra 50 – 70 Naira, due to currency fluctuations For example, using bank rates, £1 = 2200 Naira, however, we always advise students to make use of 2400 Naira. Therefore, for conversion, multiply the sum total of your tuition balance and cost of living by 620 Naira. 21,024 X 2400 = 50,457,600 The student must show a bank statement with the sum total of 50,457,600 Naira and these funds must be in their account for 28 and the latest 30 days (untouched). FUNDS NEEDED FOR YOUR UK STUDENT VISA After CAS has been received, the students are expected to prepare for the UK Student visa, they should be aware of the funds needed for this process. For the UK Student Visa, students are expected to do a Tuberculosis test, pay for a Visa fee and an IHS fee. Visa Fee is £524 IHS Fee is £1164 for 12 months course. In essence, the funds needed for students going for Management and International Business at Birmingham City University should be over 15, 000, 000 Naira. However, it is important to reach out to our counsellors on the breakdown of funds needed to study in the Uk, as these prices and fees are often updated. Why an up-to-date CV is needed for your admission
WHY AN UP-TO-DATE CV IS NEEDED FOR YOUR ADMISSION An up-to-date CV for admission is one of the essential requirements in your application process, meaning that as a prospective student, you must provide a CV containing your most current information. I bet you wonder why an up-to-date CV is needed for your admission, right? Well, let us take a look at this scenario. SCENARIO Ade decided to study abroad and chose the UK for his Master’s program at Coventry University for the May intake. He came to us to help him with his admission process. We let him know that he is putting in his application at the dying minute and advise him to send in his documents as soon as possible. We provided Ade with the full list of documents required to study at Coventry University: International passport Official transcript Degree certificate WAEC/NECO results Personal statement An up-to-date CV for admission Reference letter Ade submitted all the documents, but due to time constraints, he did not update his CV. His work history had gaps, and some contact information was outdated. The Problem with an Outdated CV When the admission officers at Coventry University received Ade’s documents, they carefully reviewed each one: Passport: proof of nationality Transcript and degree certificate: proof of educational background WAEC: proof of English proficiency Personal statement: proof of study intentions Reference letter: proof of character and past performance Finally, they examined his CV. Unfortunately, they were unimpressed. Gaps in Work History Ade graduated from the university in the year 2012, and on his CV it states that he worked at Aqualand industry between the year 2016 and 2017, and he is currently working at ABC Ltd, from the year 2020 to date. This leaves the university admission officers wondering about the 3 years after he graduated and the 2-year gap between working at Aqualand and ABC Ltd. The CV does not accurately prove his professional background, so he was granted a conditional Offer, with the condition to provide an updated CV. His offer letter was sent to the email address which was provided, and our agency’s email address was copied in the mail. We reached out to him to inform him about his offer and tell him to check his mailbox for the offer letter, but he did not receive the mail. We then realize that the email address provided on the CV was not accurate. Ade immediately presents the updated CV, and thankfully, he will still be able to meet up with the intake. THE END DISADVANTAGES OF PROVIDING A CV THAT IS NOT UPDATED Providing a CV that is not up-to-date can lead to getting a conditional offer or even completely missing out on your opportunity to study abroad. We have had cases of clients whose contact details (both the email address and phone number) were wrong. To avoid being a victim of such situations, you must provide a CV containing updated information about yourself for your admission process. You should know that your CV is one of your selling points to the University as to why you should be accepted. Another lesson learnt from this scenario is the importance of doing an early application, keep in mind that you may not be as lucky as Ade. Start your admission process early and provide all the necessary documents. Do not forget to present an up-to-date CV. Reach out to us if you need more details on the importance of providing an up-to-date CV.
